EURank 2024: 20-11

Whew. Top 20, huh? That's a pretty big deal. Whereas only a few of the players we have ranked so far have shown the ability to compete with globally ranked top 100 players, we are now entering the tier of players where some of them have already beaten one - or multiple - players of that caliber.

#20: Fout NL

Score: 19.09

Fout NL player card

The Dutch Peach main, Fout NL, is buttery with his movement and tricky with his float cancels. He makes his EU rank debut as a Top 20 player after narrowly missing it last year. Surely, the best Peach from the Netherlands was determined to make 2024 his best year yet. Fout NL made the effort to enter the biggest tournaments of the year across Europe. At these events, he remained a consistent threat and secured big wins, bundling victories over Happymealz, GG, Madness, ILikeTurtles, Feradit, Skullbro, irfan, and Nobody.

Even though he didn’t capture any Top 8 finishes at major events, he still reached 9th at both Avant Deux and Somnio. Now, Fout NL is no stranger to huge runs or even winning entire tournaments over fierce competition. The highly technical Peach won Center Stage Schiedam #2 as the fourth seed, defeating the likes of Xin (twice), $TYN, and Mezzy. What makes it even more impressive is that $TYN defeated Fout NL in losers’ finals at DSEA Spring 2024—but four months later, he got his revenge and the gold along with it.

Fout NL won’t be found entering any online brackets, so you can bet he’ll be back on the battlefield all over Europe. Watching him is always a treat—whether it’s the way he moves with Peach or the intensity he brings to each match. His raw emotion and passion for Melee are palpable to anyone who watches. He’s even capable of making his opponents smile mid-set, like when he hit LunarySSF2 with a bomb from across the stage on Dreamland.

#19: Moe

Score: 18.94

Moe player card

Moe, Denmark’s resident mid-tier specialist, is no stranger to working harder to achieve his Melee goals. This year, Moe carefully balanced his contributions to the scene with other life endeavors, taking a step back to prioritize his health and university studies. Impressively, while dedicating most of his year-end preparation time in 2023 to helping TO Valhalla IV in 2024, he still managed to place 9th at his own event, beating jhabs, Raptori, and Jah Ridin' in the process. Even with the fewer local appearances he made this year, the outcome was set in stone: Moe won all of them.

Despite the challenges thrown his way, the DK from DK never lost to a player seeded below him at the events he attended this ranking period. Resilience, a stable foundation, and an optimistic attitude (in and out of the game) will always get you far. No one knows that better than Moe.

#18: LunarySSF2

Score: 18.26

LunarySSF2 player card

This season, LunarySSF2 became LunarySSF24. In 2024, Lunary attended exactly 24 European events outside his home country—the most for any player traveling abroad within the continent. Make no mistake: if you’re hosting an event and The Nightclub isn’t broadcasting on a Wednesday, Lunary will arrive to wreak havoc on your bracket.

Upping the ante for attendance did present new challenges for last year’s newly minted top 10 European. Among these was his Don’t Park on the Grass 2024 run in the US, which was cut short by no-longer-hidden boss Ossify and Melee veteran Ka-Master. Nevertheless, Lunary found no shortage of wins this season against both the new and old guard alike, including Feradit, Madness, Fecfec, Skullbro, and Fout NL.

If one thing is clear, the prolific king of the Super Smash BXL tournament series will continue to break new boundaries in 2025, elevated by an unwavering tenacity that permeates both his elegant playstyle and his unorthodox choice in dual-main. He is the quintessential embodiment of unrelenting persistence. With enough determination, no stage, matchup, or time zone can stop him.

#17: Steff$

Score: 17.92

Steff$ player card

Europe is in desperate need of fun: Please, no more spacie armies in the top 20, and don’t get me started on the wonky floaties who control the spacie army! Steff$ shows us the light: It’s time for tech-chasing, stomps and knees, tech-chase stomps and knees, slide-off DI reversals, baits (yes, apparently Falcon can do that too), and the unimaginable tech this smart gamer seems to have invented for Captain Falcon: knowing percents! Sounds cool to you? Definitely. This guy is the embodiment of fun.

It gets better—add these points to the fact that he is the self-proclaimed best at reaction tech-chasing in Europe and voilà, you have the new No. 1 of Euro- oh wait, he said he was the “best at RTC… in theory.” And he only went to two international tournaments, SAPF and Valhalla IV. That is… sobering.

Despite these small “flaws", the boomer meme creator (ask him what that’s about) can show off some very, very practical results in his small sample size: 9th place at both EU majors, wins over Freezus, irfan, and Moe, and his fair share of victories in the Dutchie gauntlet, beating Fout NL, Skullbro, noon, and Noxxa. The glorious optimization is here: reaction tech-chasing instead of “clay target shooting,” as he dismissively calls out the “guess masters” who go for stomp reads.

As you can see, Steff$ will also bring the fun outside of the game with witty Austrian humor, big smiles, and young man genes. However, as an old man, let me teach you the final, optimal lesson to improve the fun: come to more tournaments. I’ll pick you up in Würzburg.

#16: Skullbro

Score: 16.36

Skullbro player card

Another year has passed, and Europe’s premier Dr. Mario player continues to showcase his modus operandi: strong but not dominant showings domestically, combined with an impressive ability to avoid getting upset internationally, despite playing a character relatively weak in the current Melee metagame. This year, he traveled outside his native Netherlands three times and was arguably upset only once—by German Falco main DerFasan.

That minor misstep aside, Skullbro secured several impressive wins over international talent, including Astar, Irfan, Rikzz, and Jamie. While he stumbled a bit domestically against top 10 Dutch players, these results hardly register when compared to his strong body of work abroad.

It has now been two years since Skullbro’s #1 placing on the Dutch 2022 Melee PR. While the title of "placeholder #1" was ironically given to him at the time, Skullbro has proven himself time and again as a reliable representative of the Netherlands on the international stage.

#15: Sharp

Score: 14.15

Sharp player card

Amazing Peach players from Sweden are probably something you’re used to by now, and as the Swedish Sniper has put down the torch, Sharp is here to pick it back up. Arguably the best active player in Sweden right now, Sharp is also the player who rose the most spots in 2023 from their previous EU rank last year by a large margin.

Starting off the year strong by placing second at the SU 10 Year Anniversary, Sharp has since dominated almost every single Swedish bracket they’ve entered.

With wins over Pipsqueak, Raptori, $TYN, Skullbro, and Happymealz—just to name a few of their 2024 results—Sharp is an absolute powerhouse with no signs of stopping. The secondary Fox mentioned in last year’s blurb has been putting in more work this year, so we can look forward to seeing it potentially utilized against Solobattle the next time they face off in bracket.

The small scene of Västerås might not have the largest number of active players, but there must be something in the water over there because they’re somehow producing some of the strongest players in the country.

#14: Kingu

Score: 13.99

Kingu player card

This unapologetic Fox main is a force of nature and has continued to improve over the years despite having fewer opportunities to travel out of region compared to his peers. He is bold and blunt with his thoughts, opinions, and hot takes—whether he’s trouncing on Foxes and Puffs, tweeting banger after banger, or debating with other Melee players about matchups and gameplans. Kingu’s sincerity and unfiltered way of carrying himself is genuinely respectable, and it shows in his high-level gameplay.

The year began with a boastful 1st place at Dragon’s Dojo 8, where he defeated Pi and double-eliminated Max’s Fox. While he didn’t compete outside of the UK, this didn’t stop him from netting important wins. At Crescendo 2, Kingu defeated GG and Fat Tino for 3rd place, and at Front Runners #19, he scored wins over irfan, GG again, and eliminated Europe’s best Luigi, Jah Ridin’, before ending his run with another 3rd-place finish at the hands of kins0. At various other in-region tournaments, Kingu demonstrated his expansive matchup spread by gaining wins over Jamie, Frenzy, Madness, Okameed, 10QuidShoes, and Joefish.

The Kinguino Nation is due for another international appearance from the man himself, and whenever Kingu decides to pop out like toast at a US major, we should all be prepared to witness him take out significant names en route to a Cinderella run.

It’s gonna come home.

#13: Jamie

Score: 13.99

Jamie player card

Jamie makes his EU rank debut after consistently performing exceptionally well at nearly every tournament he entered. 2024 was a pivotal year for Jamie, as it marked the year he entered more in-person events than ever before, proving that he could achieve strong results on LAN. He never finished below 5th place in any tournament and managed to win three out of the seven he competed in.

Starting off with What The Duck?!, Jamie took home gold over the likes of Madness and Kingu. In both sets against Kingu, he was able to find crucial rest setups and edgeguards to keep the momentum going en route to first place. During his 3rd-place run at Invasion 2024, Jamie’s sneaky rest playstyle helped him secure another Fat Tino win for the year. He also demonstrated utter dominance at Braveheart Brawl 2024, where he dropped only a single game while besting Jacob <3, Iudking, and LunarySSF2 twice.

At Avant Deux, which had over 110 entrants, Jamie outperformed his seed by defeating players like LunarySSF2 again, Fout NL, and Pi before being narrowly overpowered by kins0 in game five of losers’ quarters.

Jamie is committed to the grind and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. The online Puff menace continues to compete from his home, taking down heavy hitters while staying tournament-ready for the next big in-person event he chooses to enter.

#12: $TYN

Score: 13.05

STYN player card

$TYN's emergence last year as one of the premier Fox mains in Europe was primarily fueled by his ability to defend his domestic tournaments from max who spent that year travelling often to the Netherlands. max's relative inactivity within Europe in 2024 created an issue for $TYN who was already a bit upset prone within his own region and had quite low international attendance to otherwise boost his resume. The solution? Go to 5 international events in 2024 including his first ever NA tournament, where he fittingly beat NorCal doc main Phorox and All-time top 100 sheik Darkatma to place 97th. Combine that with his very strong showings at German tournaments such as Teetied and Sapf where he picked up wins over Schima, King, Nuckels and LunarySSF2, he managed to supplement his rock-solid head to head's against the Dutch scene (besides a 1-2 record against his static doubles partner Nuckels) to stake his claim as one of Europe's strongest solo Fox mains.

#11: irfan

Score: 11.49

irfan player card

irfan’s ranking is another "ah, finally" moment on this year's list. For the longest time, the German Falco main was best known as the head TO of HTS in Nuremberg, the flagship tournament series for the DACH region back in the day.

But now that irfan has shifted his focus toward traveling and competing outside his region, it feels almost inevitable to see him ranked this close to the top 10 in Europe.

Playing against irfan will sometimes feel like he has solved the game, but he just won’t tell you how he did it. His dominance within Germany is unquestionable, having winning or even records against anyone except the two players ranked above him on the German Summer Power Ranking 2024. On the international stage, irfan has made waves as well, including a standout performance at Get On My Level X, his first North American major. Seeded 71st, he smashed expectations with a 33rd-place finish, taking down players like MOF and Bambi in the process.

However, this rank still feels deflated (i.e., the opposite of inflated), considering that irfan will just enter any bracket, no matter how he feels that day. And let’s not forget doubles—while most Falco mains tend to struggle in team settings, irfan thrives, standing out as one of the rare players who can excel at both singles and doubles with equal finesse.

All in all, irfan is a one-of-a-kind player whose versatility and consistency make him a true gem in the European Melee scene.
